Around 300 Rohingya refugees, trafficked from Bangladesh under false promises of safety and resettlement, find themselves stranded in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley. Deceived by traffickers who rerouted them into eastern Nepal instead of India, they now face an uncertain and precarious future. With no official refugee status in Nepal, they lack access to basic rights, legal recognition, or support systems, leaving them in a state of limbo.
Their plight is compounded by limited resources and growing vulnerabilities, including poverty, lack of shelter, and insufficient access to healthcare and education. Nepal, not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, offers no formal pathways for their resettlement or integration. These refugees, fleeing persecution in Myanmar and trapped by trafficking networks, remain invisible to international efforts. Without urgent action from humanitarian organizations and regional cooperation, their hope for a secure future dwindles, leaving them stranded and voiceless in an unfamiliar land.
